China

• China expands carbon market to include big polluters - steel, cement and aluminum smelting are now included in China’s national emissions trading system, creating financial incentives for big polluters to help the country become carbon neutral by 2050. (Sixth Tone, March 27, 2025)

India

• The Asian Development Bank and the UN Green Climate Fund plan to create a financial facility to increase emerging clean technologies in India. With an initial $200 million, the program will target renewables, electric mobility and compressed biogas. Government policy bottlenecks and high entry costs have hindered the adoption of certain clean technologies.

Indonesia

• Southeast Asia’s largest floating solar farm with 192 MWp capacity is expected to reduce emissions by 214,000 tonnes annually. Cirata Floating Solar Plant

Japan 

• A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Tokyo between Energy for a Secure Future (Canada), the Institute of Energy Economics (Japan), and the First Nations LNG Alliance. The agreement aims to promote liquefied natural gas trade, reduce emissions, and strengthen energy security across the Asia-Pacific region. (The First Nations Talk, March 1, 2025)
• MaRS Discovery District (Toronto) partners with Japanese consortium led by Mitsubishi Corporation in Canada’s carbon removal industry, with carbon dioxide removal credit purchase and educational program with participation from M-Lab, a Japanese consortium, which includes Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas), ENEOS Americas Inc., Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc., Tokio Marine Holdings Inc., and Yazaki Innovations, Inc. • Mitsubishi becomes the first Japanese company to import Canadian LNG to Japan. Mitsubishi Corporation begins importing Canadian LNG in July 2025 and it holds a 15% stake in the $14B LNG Canada project. (JAPAN Forward, July 6, 2025)

Malaysia 

• One of the world’s largest offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects located in Bintulu, Sarawak aims to capture 3.3 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, totaling 80 million tonnes over its lifetime. Kasawari CCS Project – PETRONAS

South Korea

• During June 2025 G7 Summit, Prime Minister Mark Carney and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung committed to expanding cooperation in energy security, climate change, and clean technologies. The meeting emphasized bilateral coordination to enhance regional and global energy resilience. (The Korea Herald , June 18, 2025)

• The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). The agreement focuses on joint research in ammonia recovery, battery material recycling, and industrial waste treatment. (Newswise , July 30, 2025)

Singapore

• Singapore collabroates with Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan on a cross-border carbon capture storage (CCS) initiative aiming to store 2.5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2030. Jurong Island Carbon Capture Project.

Europe

France

• The share of renewable energies (wind power, photovoltaics, heat pumps and biogas) in the primary energy production in France attained 23% in 2024, a 14% increase since 2025. In 2024, for the first time, low-carbon energy (nuclear and renewables) represented 95% of total electricity production in France. At the European level, the target share for renewables in the energy mix has increased to 42.5% by 2030. Germany

• A $540 billion fund will finance infrastructure and climate projects, including $109 billion specifically for the Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF).

North America

United States

• Inflation Reduction Act continues to experience rollbacks. Companies cancelled $5 billion worth of projects, while only $4 billion in new investments were announced. 

Mexico

• Innovation hubs in Mexico are growing, especially in solar and water technologies. Patent activity and investment in cleantech are on the rise, with Mexico attracting foreign capital due to its proximity to the U.S. and favorable climate for renewable energy. Employment in the sector is expanding, with a focus on technical and engineering roles. The market is actively engaging with international partners to: accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies, Improve grid efficiency and storage and promote sustainable urban development.

South America

Brazil

• Brazil is expanding wind, solar, and biomass, with a focus on decentralized generation and grid modernization.

Chile

• Chile is a leader, aiming to be carbon neutral by 2050. It has one of the world's most ambitious green hydrogen strategies and a strong solar and wind pipeline.

Multi-market South America

• Colombia and Peru are scaling up solar projects in rural areas and exploring energy storage. Chile, Peru, and Brazil are major copper, lithium, and rare earth producers, critical minerals for global electrification with mining companies adopting cleantech solutions to reduce water and energy use, cut emissions, improve ESG performance, and meet investor and regulatory expectations.
